A million thanks to Arun for actually preserving these poems and lyrics of mine!
This is a kind of abstract look at how we like to evade the notion of (our) mortality. It is inspired by the Simon and Garfunkel song Flowers never bend with the rainfall.
Forever
The sands of time keep running
Yesterday just slips away
The tomorrows just keep coming
Today's not here to stay
But we walk along on the slow path
Walk along the beaten trail
Scoff at shadows of passing time
And pretend ... We'll go on living forever
As each milestone keeps passing
And we keep on hoping there'll be more
And the horizon keeps nearing
But then, we've stopped keeping score
The wheels of fate keep turning
And we hope it points our way again
Don't know when we'll start learning
Ignore the end, we'll do it fain
And we walk along on the slow path
Walk along the beaten trail
Scoff at shadows of passing time
And pretend ... We'll go on living forever
The clouds above are clearing
We see it lighting the path below
We see the end nearing
The chasm that splits the road slow
Yet, blind, we keep on walking
Thinking the chasm will bridge itself
We carry on, without stopping
Keeping our thoughts to ourselves
Still walking along on the slow path
Walking on the beaten trail
Scoffing at shadows of passing time
Pretending ... We'll go on living forever...
